Shipping Standards
Light weight textiles such as hankies
or doilies are normally shipped in 30 pound kraft
envelopes, usually doubled for added strength. As
the bulk of a parcel increases, so does the need for
added protection. For lightweight, bulky items
such as small quantities of vintage fabric or vintage
pillow cases, Tyvek mailers are used regularly...they
are extremely strong, virtually tear-proof and
water-proof as well. Of course,
parcels containing vintage textiles weighing over one
pound will be boxed.
Paper items are a whole different
animal when it comes to shipping. From the
smallest item to the largest, they require special
protection. We use a fine mailer called Stay Flats
for the vast majority of vintage paper items. They
are heavy kraft cardboard, quite strong and resist
bending and warping. All paper items are protected
by some degree of sturdy cardboard.
Shipping Methods
The vast majority of what we send out
goes by way of USPS Priority Mail service. It is
relatively inexpensive and very reliable. Also, we
believe that priority packages are handled a bit better
than
other classes of mail. If you
need something fast, we also offer USPS Express mail,
which is a 1-2 day service and very reliable.
Shipping Loss
Every purchase is insured through us,
regardless of value, weight or method of shipping.
In the extremely rare case that the chosen courier loses
or damages the package, you are 100% covered...whether
it is a $5.00 sewing pattern or a $200 quilt. For
damaged parcels, please save the container and
packaging...they may be required when making an
insurance claim.
Transit Times
Generally
speaking, most packages are delivered within a week, but
of course, some services have higher standards than
others, hence faster delivery. These standards are
not set by us, but by the courier. What we can
tell you is that 99% of all orders are shipped out by
the next business day. In fact, most orders placed
before 11:00 A.M. CT are shipped the same day!
Here is the service standards set by the U.S. Postal
Service, and FedEx accordingly:
First
Class Mail (USPS): 2-5 days
Priority Mail (USPS): 2-3 days (probably the
best value)
Parcel
Post (USPS): 2-7 days
Express Mail (USPS): 2 days (guaranteed)
FedEx
Ground & Home Delivery: 2-5 days
FedEx
Express: 1 day by 3:00 P.M.
