De Witt & Co. :: Postcards :: Comical Postcards
Welcome to our "Comical Postcards" department! Here you will find some of the most vibrant and rich postcards around. The comedy found on these postcards is relatively timeless, although political themes from the period can be found, as well. Children and animals were popular characters... something which everyone could relate to. The mother-in-law was also a common theme, as was gambling and drinking too much. In the 1940's, the colorful linen postcards allowed for the cartoonist to really boast their abilities, and provided some of the most flamboyant postcards ever made. The humor found on these treasures is very tame, by today's standards... although occasional risqué postcards can be found.
