Island Creek Stores Company Coupon Book - Coal Mine

Here we have an interesting piece of history... a coupon book from the Island Creek Company Store. As lamented in the familiar lyric of Sixteen Tons, these were used for miners to purchase goods directly from the company store, which may have been convenient for them, but with the prices they charged, the miners could never get ahead.

The booklet contains $5.00 worth of coupons in 1, 5, 10 and 25 cent denominations and was signed by the employee to forfeit $5.00 in wages. A heckuva deal.

We have several of these available, and they are all in excellent condition, having just a bit of discoloration from age. Minor variances to the photos shown here should be expected, including the coupon book's serial number.
