De Witt & Co. :: Postcards :: Thanksgiving Postcards
Welcome to our "Thanksgiving Postcards" department! Thanksgiving today is observed as a feast, where the modern-day traditional spread includes turkey, cranberries, mashed potatoes and pies of all kinds. It is remembered as the Pilgrims of Plymouth having the first Thanksgiving, although the event in 1623 was less feast and more of a religious observance.
The Thanksgiving postcard has not swayed in its traditional look in 100 years. The most common theme of a Thanksgiving Day postcard by far is the Turkey. Both realistic and comical renditions of this glorious bird appear on postcards. The other themes commonly found are harvest-related artwork and just about any type of food, sometimes with children sharing the backdrop.
